Cost Controller

Role & Responsibilities:
  • Preparation, monitoring and updating project schedules and providing planning and scheduling services to project management teams.
  • Develop overall project schedules for large heavy civil projects in the execution stage with total project values.
  • Creating project work breakdown structure and work packages (WBS)
  • Understand construction logic and incorporate into schedule along with milestones and constraints.
  • Understand the design process and procurement process as it relates to construction and incorporate these processes into the project master schedule.
  • Work with project group to develop and baseline the overall project schedule.
  • Establish project specific requirements for project schedule reporting and assist in developing the process to satisfy the reporting/feedback requirements of the project management team and the client.
  • Develop and issue short term look-ahead schedules.
  • Integrate third party sub trade and supplier schedules into master schedule and update on a regular basis.
  • Develop cash flow and resource curves based on project estimates and master schedule.
  • Generate reports on long- and short-term resource requirements for the project, interfacing with Operations, Estimators, and subcontractors to ensure proper planning, and to identify conflicts or problems and offer solutions.
  • Analyze project performance against the critical path. Agree on corrective actions with the project team where required to mitigate schedule slippage.
  • Lead the tracking, reviewing and analysis of schedule throughout all phases of the project to determine any deviations and any corrective actions required.
  • Monitor and report critical path and schedule performance to Project Team
  • Perform productivity analysis for controlled scopes of work.
  • Assist in training Project Coordinators in using MS Project to allow updating and schedule maintenance.

Qualifications / Requirements:
  • Graduate of a Civil, Mechanical or Structural Engineering degree or technology program
  • A minimum of 5 - 7 years of relevant experience
  • Experienced in distribution, substation, and interconnects projects.
  • Must be able to analyze the effect of schedule performance on project completion.
  • Must be able to produce area-based reports on the schedule status in an unbiased and professional fashion.
  • Scheduling/Planning experience within General Contractor construction teams
  • Good understanding of cost/schedule integration and earned value management.
  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills and effective interpersonal skills
  • Competency using MS Projects, Word, and Excel
  • Cost Control experience would be an asset.
